Personally I was impressed... I think if he did a bit of weight lifting and built his body a bit more... he could definately be here to stay!! Well i already think he is... Some of his dialoges were powerful and did his role justice.
It was nice to see Kareena... She had this Bhola Bhaala-ness about her like neha out of Kareeb... But I dont think she will become a Beauty Queen just yet... Basically she didnt flash her figure about or showed her body off!! Oh well shes pretty..Faddy
Just seen the film today and I have got to say it was brilliant. I am a big big SALMAN KHAN fan and he looked absolutely georgous. The movie is a must watch.
You can get a review of this film on indiafm. site: www.indiafm.com ( and Planet Bollywood from the link on this page) I say go and watch it and then tell me what you thought :)..Farhana
Fantastic comedy , a must see . Love the way Bollywood takes the mickey in a gentle manner of all of India's diverse races and faiths . Sardarjis of course but also Tamil ( in Sajan chale sasural) and in this movie Gujaratis . Its also fun to listen to all deep Urdu spoken by one of the poets to which Govinda says 'we know Urdu is the best classy language in the world but its wasted on duffers like us'.
Raju Patel is a superpatriot NRIs with Indian flags stuck all over his suitcases when he arrives in India , and then gets robbed of his passport , clothes and money but still thinks India is great .
Nobody working out on a punching bag has looked as sexy as Twinkle and the first song -Ghora ghora rang - ends with a superb classical Indian dancing flourish . Twinkle competes with Govinda in dance steps , she makes a valiant effort and she has got the shape .
The fast classical dance sequence from 50.35 onwards on the DVD is really fantastic and even watched with the repeat function a hundred times one always sees something new . Govinda does it very well but being a man nobody is going to look at him and all eyes will be on Twinkle .
Watch her head , neck , hip sway and fast use of arms .It would have been even better if instead of that transparent thing she had left the belly button uncovered to show the quivering stomach muscles .
All Bollywood movies should add a three minute classical dance sequence to the formula , it will be extremely popular .Hopefully they will soon release a DVD with just such classical dances . Jhanak jhanak payal baje and Sridevi doing the tandav come to mind and others can add to the list .
This DVD is a must have just for that dance alone ..
Dil Se Dil Se is a beautiful movie, extremely passionate in its content and treatment, like a moving picture on a canvas of life, so near yet so far. Manisha looked breathtaking, Shahrukh a very convincing Delhite RadioJockey/ Journo in love.
Overall a very sensitive film that also very creatively utilizes the political milieu of terrorism in Assam. Mani Ratnam is completely amazing and is one of my favorites, and reminds me of Shyam Benegal who has always made amazing films. A.R. Rehman's music really pierces the heart. Dil Se is a must see.
Parul Bhatia
They should always put the engagement song at the start instead of making us wait till the end because that is where the women dress in all these beautiful wedding costumes , the music is traditional and the lyrics with the girls side mocking the boys and vice versa superb.
This is a good time pass movie , probably one wont remember much of it six months later . Salman Khan has done well - just watch the scene where he is trying to tell his brother in the car that he loves Karishma . There is the odd Bombay scene but 99% has been shot in Switzerland .
If the Maharashtra govt keeps harassing these film producers with new taxes , Bollywood is going to move en masse to London where they make more money than in all of Mumbai .What was new in this movie which hasnt I think been done in Bollywood before was the great erotic dance with Salman and his lady dancing partner , when he is trying to make Karishma leave him .It came at the right time when things had got a bit emotional , had they tried it earlier the censors would probably have chopped a lot out . A Western friend said she wasnt enjoyed every minute.
A movie which might intensify the Hindu-Christian warfar going on at the moment in India . A Hindu boy in love with a Christian girl get beaten up every time he crosses into the territory of the 'Eagle' gang .
The priest might issue a fatwa over a phrase he uses to his girlfriend ' You may believe in your God , but I believe in the truth' but that would be taking it out of context where it is quite inoffensive .
The inside of these big churches is magnificient and even a Hindu would feel at home with all the statues of Jesus and Mary there .One kind of 'float' dance by the Goans is superb , gorgeous outfits .
There is a lot of violence in this movie , even more than Gang but it is more a schoolyard type of scrap . The Western languages dont have a gender pronoun for self so the Goans who were liberated only recently from the Portugese say things like ' Humko ye mangta hai ' instead of for a woman 'Humko ye mangti hai' .
Ash is the only Indian girl who looks good in Western outfits but even she shines when she dons a Marathi dance one but its for too brief a time - must have been left on the editing floor but I think would have made the movie more popular .
Would one see the movie again ? Definitely on the big screen . Bollywood movies are always best seen second time when one can concentrate on the photography , dresses and music instead of the story .
There is one magical moment when the raft is floating on some crystal clear water in the sea , must have been shot in Maldives , so clear that it seems to float in space than on water . More time should have been spent on showing the beautiful beaches . A friend just back from Goa said he is going again next year as the people are friendly , the beaches superb and the food excellent . They should have panned the beaches slowly to promote tourism.
Shah Rukh Khan as the gang leader is brilliant . Its not just his facial expressions that makes him such a good actor but he has firmed up for this role and every muscle and movement reeks repressed anger . SRK is a popular actor amongst NRIs and it will be interesting to see how far the US top 100 this movie gets .
Ivory heads may decry these movies but I heard a few women sobbing violently , and I think that is the reason for their popularity as they allow a kind of emotional catharsis which is lacking in any other language movies on the planet at this time
Bollywood should also I think put on the great Pakistani pop videos just as it did 'Sawanl sloani ladki' but picturize it on the same pop artist . Would like to see Haqiqa Kiyanis Mirpuri ' man de moj wich hasna' , 'Mr Fraudia ' and another recent one which won the best song award - cant remember her name and maybe others that Ramliers can suggest . Of course they should pay proper royalty . These songs are so popular that they would double cinema audiences and it would be great to see them on the big screen.
Arre yaaron "Kya Kehna" ka kya kehna!! Fantastic film. A refreshing change from the usual bolly stylee movies....and what a performance from Preity....fantastico!..Neema
The movie was pretty unrealistic though - especially the ending. I thought Saif Ali Khan's mother was too loud was overdone.. Also, the way Preity's friends ignored her and even created that stupid play was annoying. Still, it was a good movie - just not fantastic as you said, imo.. Dez
Another fantastic Govinda comedy in the same vein as Dulhe Raja ,
Deewana Mastana , Chote Sarkar , Coolie No. 1 , Anari no. 1 , BMCM
etc. Three hours of enchantment , one is scared to look at the watch in
case some misses his antics or his jokes . He has to be the top
comedian in the world .
Many used to say that Indian songs and dances wouldnt be popular with
Western audiences , and they were left unsubtitled , and it turned out
to be nonsense . Similarly when they subtitle Govinda's movies
accurately I think he is going to become a world wide favourite .
Of course when they introduce him in 'Mumbai' its actually the Sydney
Opera house he is dancing in front of with a bevy of beautiful buxom
Australian women but Indian audiences appreciate that .
Beautifual aerial shots of Australia and Europe . Just watch him doing all the tomfoolery at the wedding with the donkey , beating up villains with even greater gusto when he is mad at his girlfriend , doing a striptease with a note in hismouth with a girl in a Swiss bar and much more . Of course get the DVD but see it on big screen .
The dialog is fantastic , the music great . I prefer Raveena but Rani does well .The movie has been shot entirely in the West and earlier in the dances in the town squares they used to just watch but now its nice to see the kids join in .In one scene he even plays his own grandfather , grandmother , mother , brother and sister ( the father I think had died) and himself and all very well ! Also loved it when he puts his fingers in his ears and babbles when he doesnt want to hear what someone is saying . Something I am going to copy.. I am going to see it again as comedy is even better the second time round if I get a chance..Mo
Maybe they are showing respect for a British audience by speaking English! Saif Ali Khan's English was very good, he does an entertaining "cor-blimey 'guv" London accent.
The atmosphere that the big Bollywood names created was absolutely electric! The females seemed to be the most crazed, screaming at Saif Ali Khan, Salman Khan, and Bobby Deol.
The dancing was energetic, sensuous, colourful, fantastic stuff with good modern songs, most people would have recognised them all. They did a medley number, with new songs only - I miss the old stuff! Also some more songs from the marvellous Kaho Na Pyar Hai would have been welcome.
The spotlight tended to wander around the stage as if unsure of whether to shine on the stars or some other randomly chosen place.
I didn't think the venue was very good. The show had already started when I got in, even though I had started queueing early. After hours of sitting on a hard plastic seat without a break, my back was killing me! At least the sound system was good and clear.
It was also fun to see the Khan brothers have a stab at music - Salman singing, Saif Ali on the guitar I only found out about the event over the internet, but the show was a full house! There could well be enough demand to support more shows if they are so popular.. Adrian Savage
Sonali is exquistely beautiful in real life . All the women look good because they dress Indian while the men .. What gives most pleasure at these shows is not just the dancers on stage but the people in the aisles who cant resist getting up and doing a little Bhangra . And in earlier shows it was just the men , now it is the young women too . There is something about South Asian music which gets to one's core .
A couple of criticisms . There is no need to try to hype the audience to shout back so much - a few Sardarji jokes can put everyone including Sardars in a good mood . If the start is delayed put a few local singers on . The women look gorgeous in their outfits and the men who appear on stage should also dress Indian some of the time -when Salman Khan did one dance in a lungi it brought the house down.
These can be fashion shows as well and will attract a bigger audience . These shows need to be better advertised and there should be one Internet site all Asians should instinctively go to , to find where the local events are .
I would like a couple of items where the electronic tablets and bongo drums are put away and they play the tabla and sitar and do a couple of classic dances from Jhanak Jhanak payal baje the Krishna and Shiva dances . The dancers and actressess and actors are superbly fit and could surely do them .
Salman Khan sang a song from his forthcoming movie and the girls went crazy , in fact every time he touched one of the women on stage there were screams from the girls on the seats .
Bobby Deol , Saif Ali Khan ,Malaliaka and Raveena were all superb . A treat for those who know the songs and have seen the movie. The amount of wealth floating about in the Asian community is truly astounding . There were actually girls cruising in open top merc sports cars waving and shouting to boys on the road .
Lets have more of these concerts and better advertised .If Farhat Hussain wants to make millions he would put the show on a 3 hr DVD and also sell it on satellite.
They did a magnificient Gharaba with sticks and a few Bhangra dances and could do a few from Pakistani movies too. The female actresses maybe because they are more anxious to connect didnt speak Hindi at all and that is NOT good . The biggest cheers were for the men when they spoke some Hindi/Urdu . After all if you make your living from Hindi movies lets have a bit of respect for the language .Just a few sentences of Hindi from the female stars would be enough , Of course English is the universal language and 90% of the proceedings have to be in English . Glad you enjoyed the show . They should also hold it at smaller venues with more comfortable seats.
One feature I really liked were the slower sensouos couple dances ..Mo
Hera Pheri , 2000 , Videosound , English subtitles though I couldnt get them to work - how does one do it ?
Akshay , Tabassum , Sunil Shetty , Paresh Rawal
Picture quality -perfect
Sound -perfect 5.1
What a genius of a movie !. Every scene is captivating Beautiful shots mostly from Sun City Hotel in South Africa . Three poor people living in Bombay but they can still have great songs and dances in their dreams . Being very partial to dark haired long limbed beauties , I would watch any movie of Tabu , and the three men here do extremely well . Paresh as the myopic landlord has done an outstanding job . Akhsay in his best performance for a long time . The three try a get rich quick scheme to pay off their debts . Om Puri is brilliant as the Punjabi dehati . This movie is still playing in the theaters so I am going to hide this DVD from my friends and take them to see the movie on the big screen - the only way to see these Bollywood movies and appreciate the tremendous hard work and craft that goes into making them . Must see .
Hera Pheeri is a well-written, well-directed, and superably-acted film. Paresh Rawal plays the almost-blind surrogate father figure with great aplomb, he literally steals every scene in the movie. Even the two knuckleheads, Sunil Shetty and Aksaye Kumar, give a better than average performance.
I never really liked Tabu, she has the looks of a model, but the voice of man. It is so monotone and low one can easily lose her in the movie. Her performance was understated (rumor has it that she and the producer got into a tiff of some kind, thus all of Tabu's performance was left on the cutting room floor. A godsend for me, anyway) and her relationship with Sunil shetty was quite well-developed. It was nice to see Gulshan Grover reprising his role as the dastardly villain. He is a one-trick pony to be sure, with his gruff style of talking, but he was enjoyable. A good film, overall. Not bad, at all..Niraj
A pretty bad gangster movie , a definite must not see . The
Indian elite are watching and copying too many Hollywood movies and
maybe they should be banned from India for a year or two .
Indian gangster movies have always been great fun . The big
bad guy when he is kills the good guy always used to do it with a
smirk and a shairi ( limrick) some of which made you groan but most
was good admirable stuff .
Also when he captured the hero's girlfriend he would make her
do an erotic striptease kind of dance in front of all his men and
would tell her that she had to smile to save the life of the hero's
mother who used to be kidnapped at the same time -and these songs and
dances would be a big hit .
This movie has none of it . The hero's mother is just grumpy and negative all the time , and I hate women like that and the gangsters do get killed in gruesome manner . In fact there is so much killing that most of the time one doesnt know which gangster is going to get and whether he ever did anything wrong to deserve it .
There are two f words , one when a hero discovers that his marijuana smoking caused damage to his sperm and produced a paralysed child for which he blames the doctors and shoots most of them , and another bc word too awful to translate which I am sure must have been censored out in India and has been reinstated .
Utter stupidity as parents will just stop taking kids to these movies and deprive the blood thirsty ten year olds of much blood and gore which they absolutely love at that age .
This movie apparently took so long in the making , 4 years that the director Mazhar Khan , husband of the sexy Zeenat , died in the middle and the heroine who is real slim at the start gained over 20 kilos by the interval . Also the cataract in the villain's eye which is the right eye migrates to the left !
A couple of good points . Print quality is superb and not like three kings and the first song and dance is very good , not as good as in Hera Pheri where the white lady in red is shown making love to a Python between her legs ( not making this bit up !) .
Dialog is pretty poor in the first half and sporofic but improves in the second . Dont know what they used for blood but it looks very red and unreal .Nana Patekar as Abdul one of the villains has a few good lines .
If you must see it then do it as a lesson of how not to make a Bollywood movie .There is so much shouting and screaming in this movie , for a time I thought I had wandered into a Pakistani movie as they used to make all their movies like until about a year ago , and its so badly edited that most of the time one doesnt know what they are mad about .
Also the amount of overkill , why waste so many bullets on corpses ? a typical scene has one of the heroes embrace a shoot a gangster first in the foot , then still holding on to him , three times in the stomach and because like Rasputin he refuses to die in the forehead forgetting that he is standing next to him and bits of his brains fly about , and this is the indavetent funny bit , splatter the hero on his spectacles .
Why would the brain fly forwards if somebody has been shot in the head from the front ? Bollywood movies should not try to defy the laws of physics.
One of the heroes does something so outrageous in front of a group of gangsters that they start chasing him trying to kill him . Our monkey ancestors must have done the same to anger a rival group..
Gang was not a good movie mainly because it didnt have the Urdu shairi -as English replaces the local languages in India -which can make these movies so pleasurable and so memorable . Priya Rajvansh who starred in what I think is the best Bollywood movie ever -Heer Ranjha - had this shair she penned .
Kya saza di hai yeh zindagi humko
Doondhte hein hum kisime kisi ko
What punishment have you (God) given us this life
That we when we see someone ( face) we are searching in it for
someone else !
When Hollywood movies come up with good quality stuff like that I will start watching them again.
Pure Indian heroic bloodshed! Is that thing who makes non indians like me to see that movies!!!..singhania
Playing now in theaters across USA and UK . Its starts with great title effects and a religious Hindu song - glorious idol worshipping ( sorry couldnt resist it !) but then goes off to Switzerland which seems a little cold and alien , mainly I think due to the Western outfits worn by the women- dark blue and clashing black .
Almost the whole first half , which one is eager to finish so they can get back to good old warm India , is spent by Karishma wearing a man's black suit ! Talk about unsexy ! .
The second half is absolutely brilliant . Just one song and dance like 'tera pallu sarak gaya ' - your slip is showing -is a treat for the eyes and ears and makes it worthwhile spending two and a half hours .
Om Puri of East is East fame is superb as the girls protective wrestler uncle , Anupem Kher outstanding as the sympathetic gay uncle and Satish Kaushik as the laughing policeman is out of this world - just how do they think up characters like that ?
Kashmira Shah and the sexy long legged villainess are other good things about this movie . Dialog in the second half is also very good and the second half is a must see . Salman Khan and Karishma perform well although I still think no one can beat Govinda in comedy .
Liked the scene of the elevated motorway crossing a deep valley in Switzerland . There is one great outfit , a kind of three piece swimming suit worn by Karishma in the second half , filmed in Mauritius where the third bit is around her ankles . Clever ! The effect is almost as is she is stripping off in the daytime on the beach !
When they play the Dholak and the girls do the Punjabi dance at the wedding ,one feels so sorry for gorays , how can they every hope to compete with something like that !
Hadh Kar Di Aapne gave everyone a stomach-ache in Brisbane from the laughing..s8000
